SGEO is a European geostationary satellite platform based on a modular design for communications payloads.

Space Structures was responsible for all mechanical aspects of the project on system level.

  • Definition of the structure specification, monitoring of SoC and VCD.
  • Ensuring structure compliance and compatibility to all requirements and potential launchers
  • Definition and review of documentation and analysis provided by the structure hardware supplier RUAG Space
  • Global system level spacecraft FEM
  • Evaluation of non-conformances, damages and repairs of the structure during AIT phase
  • STM and PFM mechanical definition, test prediction, instrumentation, execution and results documentation
  • Evaluation of test results and demonstration of the mechanical qualification of the SGEO platform and Hispasat 36W-1 mission
  • Preparation of Craig-Bampton FE models for Coupled Load Analysis (CLA) with Launchers

System level responsibilities

  • Definition of mechanical system-level rules and guidelines
  • Definition of the mechanical test campaign of the Proto-Flight Model (PFM)
  • Mechanical interface to launchers, customers and suppliers

Mechanical sub-system support

  • Review of all mechanical analyses, test results and documentation
  • Participation to major milestone reviews and test campaigns of equipment developments
  • Compatibility of subsystem FEM model and global spacecraft FEM model
  • Evaluation of non-conformances of sub-systems

In operation in geostationary orbit since 2017.
